8월 첫주: 체벌

이번 토론의 주제는 '학교에서의 체벌, 필요한가 금지해야 하나' 입니다. 서울의 한 초등학교에서 '오장풍 교사' 학생 폭행사건이 터진 후 서울교육청은 2학기부터 모든 학교의 체벌을 전면금지하기로 했습니다. 체벌대신 상담, 벌점제, 생활기록부 등재, 학부모 소환 등 다양한 대안을 강구하고, 폭력적인 방식의 학생지도를 지양하겠다는 것입니다. 그러나 일부 교육단체 등은 체벌을 전면 금지할 경우 현실적으로 학생을 지도할 효과적 수단이 없기 때문에 훈육 목적의 제한적 체벌은 계속 허용되어야 한다고 주장하고 있습니다. 현장의 의견수렴 없는 갑작스런 체벌금지 조치가 교사의 교권을 침해한다는 지적도 있습니다. 학교에서의 체벌, 계속 허용하는 것이 옳을까요 아니면 전면 금지하는 것이 옳을까요. 만일 허용한다면 그 한계는 어디까지여야 하고, 금지한다면 어떤 대안이 필요할까요. 여러분의 적극적인 의견 개진을 기대합니다.
